What
is Dupioni Silk ?
Dupione
is a french term that describes the process whereby DOUBLE NESTED COCOONS
are harvested to make this type of silk. [pronounced dup-ee-own ]
What
kind of irregularities can I expect top see ?
As
most of the Dupioni Silks are made by hand on antique looms; making
only 4 per per day on a loom ! You can expect to see some of the following
anomilies [ pictured at left ]. These irregularities are universally
excepted as the norm in this type of fabric.
-
SLUBS - were knots of yarn cause a nub in the fabric.
- LOOPS
- slubs occasionally form as loops of thread. These are very common.
- BARRE'
- characterized by a ridge or line running across the fabric. The
fabric may be slightly thinner at this point. Barres can be caused
by tension variations.
Why
does silk fade in the sun ?
REMEMBER all silk fabrics are damaged by direct sunlight. Silk is made
of the same protein that our hair is made of and it bleaches and breaks
down in sunlight. We recommend our DOUBLE lined drapes. We line with
a 100% cotton and interline with aa heavy 100% cotton flannel. There
is a possibiliy that the leading eadges will fade. No guarantee is offered
or insinuated against any UV light effects on silk fabrics.
How
can I see the fabric that I will be ordering?
By
simply going to the swatch order page, you will be able to order actual
samples of the fabric, through our website, at very reasonable
cost. We ship the samples the same day.
What
if I need a special size drape?
If
one of the common drapery lengths or widths does not suit your application,
just send us an email and give us details of the special length you
require and we will give you a fast quote.
What
is your return policy?
When
an order is placed, we immediately cut the fabric and get the job queued
for manufacture. As these drapes are being made especially for you,
we will not entertain any returns once the drapes have been cut or made.
Although we cut the fabric immediately, the drapes take 3-4 weeks to
compete due to high demand for this product.
How
are the drapes packed and shipped?
Each
Drape is folded along it's pleats and hung on a hanger with protective
cardboard tube. They are wrapped in Plastic and shipped in a box by
UPS.
What
are lined and interlined?
We
use 100% cotton USA made "Hanes" Linings. The drapes are lined
with a cotton satin lining and on request with an additional, thicker
100% cotton flannel that sits between the lining and the silk fabric
in order to offer better light blockage. The drapery lining & stitching
pictures at the left shows the faics and an example of the sitching.
